after warming up and working on technique i felt like 165 was the place to start. i was confident in my ability to succeed at this weight and had aspirations for more. even though things went well at this load i was surprised exactly how short 0:40 was.
attempt one results: 165.165.165
what to do next? play it relatively safe at 175 to "score" better on the day OR go for what i thought possible and make the jump to 185? in the end i decided to risk it and go all in for round two. if successful then maybe 195 for round three? why not?
attempt two results: 185.fail on clean.185
ok, after staring at the last 6-7 seconds of round two tick away without enough time to successfully complete a third rep i now know two things; 1. it's possible for me to do the work 2. there must be no failed attempts. pretty obvious right? but, again, what to do? give 175 a shot when i assume i can succeed there, or go all out for 185 and reach my goal for the day?
attempt 3 results: 185.185.failed on clean
in the end i just don't have enough stamina to clean and jerk 185 x 3 within the required window. i've never attempted to keep rest to 7 or 8 seconds between reps at that load. generally when i'm at 185 it's during a longer timed event or on a pure strength day. that will change after this experience.
tabata burpees: 8.8.8.8.7.7.6.7 = 59
i was glad to see this added to the psg prescription as it's something i had been wanting to do. although i had been considering doing 0:40 on 0:20 off i hadn't decided for how long or when. this took the thinking out of the equation and allowed me to just go. a little surprised on the scores. i would have thought higher. more work ahead.
