being physically capable of doing the work is step number one. obviously we can become more capable with time, practice, and training but tdat's the obvious part and not tde real question. the question is HOW. how do we get work done faster. is it by getting stronger? having better endurance? being more efficient? or is it something completely unrelated to physical ability? due to my chosen training methods over the last few months today's scenario played largely to my strengths. save for the 400's my ability within the other movements and chosen loads shouldn't have, and didn't, pose any significant problem. where i failed today was in the "mental fitness" category. when reviewing the footage i noted numerous instances where my transition time between tasks was appalling. even with cleaning the load from the ground and transferring it overhead how can i justify a minute or more of recovery between a 400m run and some relatively light back squats? similar excessive rest was taken before the gto and squat cleans. although not as long other instances of extended recovery between movements were noted and serve as clues to an inability to leave the comfort zone, endure pain, and fight while at a deficit. pacing and gaming of certain workouts is important to maximize our potential within the given scenario and today i feel like that mentality was justified. what i don't like knowing or admitting is that i played it too safe and fell pray to the most clever demon of all. the number one monster that must be slain if i am to close the gap between current ability and full potential. self preservation. overcoming that is the real key to getting work done faster. hanging out in the comfort zone will give you a good workout and may possibly maintain any current level of obtained fitness. however, only by intentionally stepping outside of that safe place, going blindfolded into the desert with no water, compass, or food and finding the will to survive and the heart to commit will we truly come face to face with our potential self. the person we know we can, and truly want, to be.
