there are many ways to go about getting stronger and from my experience pretty much all of them work as long as you're picking up something heavy. "heavy", of course, is relative and with experience one can, and should, determine where they should load and at what number of reps. a simpler approach would likely result in similar results with regard to strength gains but 5-5-5-5-5 doesn't get the creative juices flowing or excite me to any extent. don't get me wrong, getting stronger isn't rocket science, but it keeps things interesting to pretend that it is from time to time.

this turned out to be such a well balanced scenario that i'm not so sure i would change anything. the loading kept a high speed attack out of the question as failure on any given movement would set one back considerably further than effective pacing. staying just under the failure point can be a gamble in that it's tempting to stay away from taking chances. output should be the top priority but if you're never surprising yourself then consider the fact that you're likely guilty of playing it TOO safe.
