The venue has changed, the arena has moved, and the means to an end have expanded. In times (and temperatures) like these I find it more important than ever to open the shades on the window of my mind even further. No longer should anything discourage me from being active at all times and actively seeking new and useful methods for reaching my goals. Whether it’s getting acclimated to less than “ideal” weather or finding new uses for old tools, the need to keep the mind and body functioning, and working, at the edge… is of high importance. This effort was molded and shaped up until the point of execution and even some during. Villa was the first of this two lab rat team to run through the heavy powder on this calm 17 degree day. Surprises and obstacles mounted along the way resulting in numerous attempts and trials at finding the most efficient way to complete each task. The natural element of snow was drastically underestimated in its level of increased demand on the efficiency of movement. The closer one got to the end of the pallet drag the harder things became. It was nearly impossible to keep snow from building up; simultaneously adding load and increasing friction. Everything was more difficult than normal; flipping the tire, running, holding on to the ball, gripping the rope, or rolling the tire… it didn’t matter, nothing was easy.

And this is the point. If we can learn to work hard and fast in less than desirable conditions then that should transfer when it’s time to get back over the bar in our comfortable clothes, ideal temperatures, and favorite gym space. Or maybe we shouldn’t work in those conditions at all…

More pictures to follow shortly.
